It’s Summer Time!!!

22 Jun

Yesterday was the first day of summer, so HAPPY summer everyone! I thought it would be appropriate to put up an awesome recipe for something summery. This is an easy and delicious recipe for deep fried ice cream. I don’t remember where I first found the recipe but mad props to who ever came up with the first recipe! It’s pretty impressive dessert to serve at a summer bbq. Just make sure you do most of the work before hand because it is a bit time consuming. Also please be extremely careful as you are using hot oil, it can cause serious damage! Deep fry at your own risk! Try it out and let me know what you think by leaving a comment!

Deep Fried Ice Cream

  • 2 cups vanilla or dulce de leche ice cream
  • 1 cup finely chopped toasted almonds
  • 2 1/2 cups graham cracker crumbs
  • 4 eggs, lightly beaten
  • oil for frying

  1. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Place in freezer for about 5 minutes.
  3. Using an ice cream scoop, your hands and warm water, make ice cream balls about the size of a baseball (about 1/4cup).
  4. Place the balls on the chilled baking sheet and put in the freezer for about 10 minutes.
  5. Place almonds in a bowl. Roll ice cream balls in the almonds, pressing the nuts on the balls to coat them well.
  6. Freeze for about 30 minutes.
  7. Place eggs in a bowl and the crumbs in another bowl. Turn the ice cream balls in the egg and shake to remove any excess. Roll the balls in the crumbs, pressing to coat well.
  8. Freeze for about 30 minutes.
  9. Strain the the eggs to remove crumbs. Place in fridge.
  10. Coat the the ice cream in egg and crumbs a second time.
  11. Freeze for about 2 hours.
  12. Preheat the deep fryer or a wok full of oil to 375 degrees F.
  13. Fry 3 or 4 balls at a time until golden, bout 2 minutes. Serve immediately and enjoy!
