Pig cheeks at Navarra
This weekend Ottawa’s own, Chef Rene Rodriguez won the latest edition of Top Chef Canada. Chef Rodriguez runs Navarra on Murray St. here in Ottawa. Sarah and I ate at Navarra in 2010 and it was great. I thought I would repost my original post today in honour of his win. Congrats Chef Rodriguez! Last […]

Sweet Maple Syrup!
This weekend was what seemed like the first real weekend of spring. We finally got some nice weather, meaning there was some sun, it was above freezing and there wasn’t a snow storm. Since the weather was nicer than it had been we decided we needed to get out of the house and have some fun in the great […]

Saffron rock candy is AWESOME! My best friend moved to Iran for a few years, and when she came back earlier this year, she came bearing gifts… my favorite being the saffron rock candy! I’m now an addict, though I don’t know where I can get more around here, so I use it sparingly! I want to learn how to make it, since she also gave me a container of Persian saffron!
Mix one cup water with three cup suger after boilling add aqurter TSPON saferone ( you can buy saferone from any shop ) let 10 min to cool then replace in a clean glass. in the middle of the glass hang a little string or plastic or wood skew.
