Fire on Beechwood … Update

17 Mar

Yesterday saw a big fire on Beechwood, this morning I got a chance to see some of the aftermath. The building containing the Home Hardware is no more, it has been torn down and is now a pile of rubble. Parts of the building that housed Nature’s Buzz has also been torn down. At the moment all of the other buildings are being inspected for structural integrity, to see what may need to be torn down. It is extremely likely that Lester’s Barber Shop will be torn down and there is the possibility that others will be taken down as well. This is a huge blow to the New Edinburgh community, some of these stores may never open again and this strip gave the community a lot of its character. One of the worst tragedies is that 11 people lots their apartments and most or all of their possessions yesterday. Stay tuned for ways to help. Below are a few pictures of the aftermath of the fire.

I used to live on that street. I am very thankful I have moved across town. I feel really bad for all those who lost their homes/businesses.

On a lighter note, it’s nice to finally find another Ottawa foodie.
