Volunteers Needed!!!

3 Oct

This weekend is Thanksgiving, which means we get a long weekend and to eat lots of turkey! (YAY tryptophan!) It is also a time to think of how lucky we are for everything we have. We can be thankful for all the delicious food we eat, for friends and family. While we have lots to be thankful for, there are others in our community who don’t have as much to be thankful for. On average the Ottawa Food Bank helps 43,000 people a month. 37% of the 43,000 people are children. These people come from all kinds of different backgrounds and communities. Every year the Ottawa Food Bank runs their Thanksgiving Food Drive to help feed the 43,000 people in our community. You will see Food Bank volunteers out at grocery stores around the city. When you see them, make sure to take a bag and fill it up with food to donate.

If you really want to see change happen, think about taking some time this weekend and volunteer with the Ottawa Food Bank. Volunteers will help collect food by handing out bags to shoppers as they come into the store. The Food Bank is looking for volunteers to fill three hour shifts between 10:00am and 4:00pm at a whole bunch of locations. For more information or to register email volunteer@theottawafoodbank.ca. You can find out what grocery stores are participating by following this link, http://ottawafoodbank.ca/2011/10/thanks-for-giving-food-drive-2/. I will be volunteering so I hope to see you out there.
